It’s human nature to want to ponder how things could go in life. What if I chose pepperoni pizza instead of veggie pizza? What if I chose to wear red instead of purple? next month, we’ll finally get to see the new Disney+ series that asks this very question but for the MCU. Marvel’s What If trailer 2 just dropped and it continues to expand on the studio’s first animated series. While we got to see a marvel Studios What If…? trailer last year, this What If trailer 2 gave us a few new looks as to what we can expect come August.
What If: A History

First, let’s look at where this all began: in 1977, marvel made a decision to publish an anthology series that explored how things might have unfolded had certain crucial moments not occurred. It was narrated by the alien, Uatu the Watcher (voiced by Jeffrey Wright in the series), who was tasked with observing the earth and its alternate realities. Each story was independent of the others, indicating that readers didn’t have to invest time in reading a whole interconnected series, and always featured well-known comic characters that were already familiar to MCU fans.

The a lot of famous What If…? plots were ones that reimaged origin stories. For example, there was one called “What If Uncle Ben had Lived?,” which of course would’ve changed the entire Peter Park/Spider-Man storyline. The Disney+ series looks to be following this formula as we saw scenes such as Yondu picking up a young T’Challa instead of Peter Quill and Peggy Carter being infused with super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers.
What’s new In Marvel’s What If Trailer 2?

Despite being a mere two minutes and 19 seconds, there’s a lot to unpack in Marvel’s What If trailer 2. We got a look at which MCU characters were making an appearance and what their potential new storylines might be:
Tony Stark Is Rescued By…Killmonger? plus new Characters!
In the newest story that we got a look of, it looks like Tony Stark may not become Ironman because he’s rescued by Killmonger, who may also be the King of Wakanda given that it looks like he’s riding around on some Wakandaian animals? We also see Loki in charge of his own army (this is undoubtedly the Loki variant, cartoon Loki right?). Whether he’s a good person or a bad person remains to be seen. In addition, there were also brief appearances by other MCU characters, like Howard the Duck, Hulk, Gamora, Drax, Okoye, and Ego.
More familiar Voices
It was fun to hear Chris Helmsworth’s voice (although the cartoon version looks nothing like HIM), as well as Hayley Atwell and Michael B. Jordan. a lot of of the characters will be voiced by their respective actor and actresses, although sadly, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, The Collector, Carol Danvers, Steven odd will be voiced by new voice actors. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans’s contract with marvel ended, so it makes sense they aren’t in What If…?. Benicio Del Toro, Brie Larson, and Benedict Cumberbatch might have just had scheduling conflicts.
We also got to hear a lot more of Chadwick Boseman’s voice, which is emotional, to say the least. Yondu and T’Challa have a humorous moment, where Yondu rescues him in the nick of time. What If…? will absolutely be bittersweet for lots of fans as it will be Chadwick Boseman’s final marvel appearance. Kevin Feige, president of marvel Studios, said that Boseman “came in about four times and recorded many episodes.” While we’ll miss seeing this legend in new motion pictures and shows, it will be great to have this one last appearance to remember him by.
